The Atlanta Thrashers may have figured out a winning formula at the most important time of the season: get ahead by two goals, squander the lead, then pull it out. Nik Antropov and Colby Armstrong scored two goals apiece for the Thrashers, who gave themselves hope in the playoff race with a second straight victory, 6-3 over the Ottawa Senators on Thursday night.

Jason Pominville and Buffalo Sabres made quick work of the Tampa Bay Lightning. Pominville scored three goals and the Sabres beat the Lightning 6-2 on Thursday night to move within four points of New Jersey for the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference. Ryan Miller added 23 saves including a stop on Vincent Lecavalier's breakaway as Buffalo held a 4-0 lead after two periods.

Pekka Rinne made 17 saves for his fifth shutout of the season, and Colin Wilson, Jason Arnott, and Patric Hornqvist each had a goal and an assist in the Nashville Predators' 5-0 victory over Minnesota on Thursday night. Nashville won its fourth straight, ending Minnesota's winning streak at three.

Phil Kessel scored in regulation and in a shootout to help the Toronto Maple Leafs win for the fifth time in six games, 2-1 over the New Jersey Devils on Thursday night. Nikolai Kulemin and John Mitchell also scored shootout goals for the Leafs, and Jean-Sebastien Giguere made 24 saves. David Clarkson scored for New Jersey, and Yann Danis stopped 24 shots in place of Martin Brodeur.

Paul Kariya barely had time to celebrate his 400th NHL goal before St. Louis Blues teammate Keith Tkachuk put things into perspective. "Now you're about 135 behind me," the grizzled veteran said, laughing. "Not that I'm counting." Kariya actually trails Tkachuk by 137 goals.
